Exposure to nature is widely acknowledged to have restorative benefits, improve cognitive performance and overall wellbeing. The literature predominantly focused on the visual experience of nature. The limited studies on nature sound were mainly experiments on restorative effects on cognitive performance. I proposed that, in real life, users listen to nature sounds while engaging in other activities. This program of studies explored if this phenomenon existed, how and why nature sounds in daily life were used, and the associations of nature sounds via mixed methods. The findings revealed that nature sounds were used during a wide range of activities. The top motives to seek out nature sounds were for the aesthetic beauty of nature sounds, stress recovery and attention regulation. Nature sounds were found to be associated with fond memories, nature itself, and positive feelings. The findings from these studies expanded our understanding of nature sounds on digital platforms usage in real life. Future directions and theoretical and practical implications were discussed.
