Profile

Duy D Trinh is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His research centers on elite politics in single-party regimes, with a particular focus on contemporary Vietnam and China. He investigates how violent intra-elite conflicts emerge; how authoritarian elites use censorship to compete for power; and how societal actors respond to various outcomes of factional politics. His works have appeared in Comparative Political Studies, Democratization, and Problems of Post-Communism, as well as in an edited volume. Duy is a Southeast Asia Research Group (SEAREG) fellow and a Mansfield-Luce Asia Scholar. Prior to joining HKUST, Duy was a Data and Statistical Specialist at the Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance at Princeton University.
